How to create a character on Candy AI, step by step
Step 1: Sign up free
Our button opens Candy’s home page, because the builder needs an account. Creating one is free.
Step 2: Open Create Character
It’s in Candy’s main menu, next to Generate Image and My AI.
Step 3: Choose the look
Start with the overall style, then the appearance details the builder offers. Keep the character clearly adult.
Step 4: Pick a voice and a personality
The voice is what you’ll hear in voice messages; the personality sets the tone of every reply.
Step 5: Name and save
Add a name and whatever background details the builder asks for, then save.
Step 6: Start chatting
Find your character under My AI and open the chat. On a free account, messages come out of the same 5-message allowance as every other character.
Looks, voice and personality: what you can set
Candy names three areas you can customize: looks, voice and personality (Candy’s home-page FAQ). The builder itself is the second version of Candy’s “Create My AI” flow (Candy help center, “Create My AI”, Mar 7, 2026), and its exact options change, so here’s what each area is for rather than a list of buttons that may have moved.
Looks
Style and appearance: the details that make the character recognizable in chat and in pictures. Pick one signature element, such as a hairstyle, a color or an outfit, and build around it.
Voice
The voice your character uses in voice messages and voice calls (in beta). Both are paid with tokens, so the voice matters most if you plan to use them.
Personality
The temperament behind every reply: playful or serious, bold or reserved, talkative or brief. It changes the chat more than anything else, so give it a moment’s thought.
Name and background
Depending on the version you get, the builder may also ask for a name and background details such as a job or how the two of you met. Use them: context gives the character something to talk about.
Your own persona (Premium Plus)
A persona is the other half of the conversation: a profile of you rather than of the character, with the name and details you want characters to know. Candy lists user personas among the Premium Plus extras (Candy help center, “What is Premium Plus?”, Aug 28, 2026), next to 20 memory slots, chat customization and 5 clone chats, with 330 tokens a month instead of 100.
Candy’s help center has an article on setting one up (“Create your Persona”). Premium Plus isn’t priced on Candy’s public plans page, so check the price at checkout before you upgrade.
Tips for a character that stays consistent
- Write the personality like a brief. Three or four traits plus how they talk (“dry humor, short replies, always asks a question back”) beat a long list of adjectives.
- Give them a life. A job, a city, a hobby and how you met are enough context for the chat to build on.
- Keep one signature look. A single distinctive detail is easier to keep consistent in pictures than a dozen small ones; Candy’s help center admits exact consistency between images is hard.
- Reuse the same wording in image prompts. Paste the same short description each time you ask for a picture; our image prompt tips go further.
- Restate key facts in long chats. Memory isn’t documented in detail for the regular plans; Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots.
- Test before you pay. Your free character and 5 free messages are enough to see whether the personality works.
The rule that isn’t optional: adults only
Two more limits worth knowing. What you make is for personal use only: Candy’s help center says generated content may not be used commercially. And a real person’s likeness isn’t yours to borrow. Editing or deleting a character
Your creations are listed in the My AI section of Candy’s menu, so that’s where to look for edit and delete options. The help articles we checked don’t walk through editing step by step, and the builder changes between versions; if an option you need is missing, ask Candy’s support through its help center.

How do I create a character on Candy AI?
Sign up for a free Candy account, open Create Character from the menu, then choose the look, the voice and the personality, give the character a name and save. It then appears among your companions (look under My AI) and you can start chatting straight away. The exact options change between versions of the builder.
Is creating a character free?
Your first one is. A free Candy account includes 1 custom character, plus up to 5 chat messages and 1 generated image (Candy help center, “What can I do as a free user?”, Aug 5, 2026). More characters need Premium, from $3.99 a month on the 12-month plan as of September 2026, and Candy lists creating a custom AI among the things tokens pay for.
How many characters can I make?
On a free account, 1. On a paid plan, Candy's help center describes character creation as unlimited (its “Create My AI” article, Mar 7, 2026), though tokens may apply: Candy's token article lists creating a custom AI as a token use. Check for a price in the builder before you confirm a new character.
Can I give my character a voice?
Yes. Voice is one of the three areas Candy lets you customize, with looks and personality. The voice is what you hear when your character sends voice messages or joins a voice call (still in beta), and both of those are paid with tokens. Premium includes 100 tokens a month.
Can I edit my character later?
Look in the My AI section of Candy's menu, where your creations are listed, for edit and delete options. Candy's builder changes between versions and the help articles we checked don't cover editing step by step, so if you can't find what you need, ask Candy's support through its help center.
What is a Candy AI persona?
